√ ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

To become a part of our student body, you:

  • Must be a Texas resident
  • Current 10th or 11th grader
  • Currently enrolled in or have completed Algebra II and Geometry
  • Submit a completed application along with all required documents
  • Achieve a College-Ready score on the SAT or ACT
  • Successfully complete an interview

Ø WAITING ON TEST SCORES?

You DO NOT need test scores to start the application process. You may apply and indicate your test date on your application.

Submitting your application as soon as possible is highly recommended so we can better guide you throughout the admission process.

Testing Flexibility

By applying early, we can process your other documents while you work on submitting your test scores. If your first test doesn’t go as planned, you’ll still have time to retake it before the deadline.

Class Availability

TA students share classes with undergraduates, and popular classes fill up quickly. Applying early gives you better options and greater flexibility in building your schedule.

STEP 1

Requirements for Admission

• Must be a Texas resident
• Currently be enrolled, or have completed, Algebra II and Geometry
• Taken an SAT and/or ACT exam to determine college readiness  before acceptance into the program

What is considered college ready on your test?

SAT - 480+ on Reading/Writing and 530+ on Math

ACT - 40+ on English/Reading and 22+ on Math

If you have NOT tested, please submit your application and schedule your test.

This will help us move forward in the admissions process while we wait for official scores.

STEP 2

Submitting Your Application

When completing your Texas Academy Application, you will need the following:
  • Formal Essay describing yourself, interests, and future goals
  • Student Resume that includes academic information, awards/honors, and volunteering/service
  • Letters of Recommendation: Names and emails of a teacher, and counselor, and an additional recommender unrelated to you (for example, your pastor, boss, etc.), who will complete an evaluation form for you.
    • If you are a homeschooled student, the person sending your transcript will be your counselor, and you will need two additional recommenders that are unrelated to you and can speak to your character 
  • If you have test scores, screenshot of scores

A $25 non-refundable application fee must be paid prior to review of your application. This $25 will be applied to the $100 Student Services Fee upon acceptance to the Texas Academy. 

STEP 3

Interview

Your final step in the acceptance process is an interview with the Texas Academy Staff.

After our review of your essay, resume, letters of recommendation, and academic transcript, you will be contacted via email to schedule an interview.

We ask that you bring a parent to your interview so that we can go over expectations of a Texas Academy student, academics, etc. Interviews will typically be 45 minutes to an hour, depending on student and parent questions once the interview is completed. 

STEP 4

Admission Decision

After you have completed your interview, the Texas Academy Staff will make a decision on your application.

If you are interviewed prior to March 15, you will receive your admissions decision the week of March 17th.

If interviewed after March 15, we will have rolling admissions, and you will be notified of your decision as soon as possible.
