Cardinal Course Materials

Cardinal Course Materials (CCM) is an affordable textbook rental program through the Barnes and Noble Bookstore. Through this program, students can receive required textbooks, lab manuals, access codes and electronic books. 

The CCM bundle will provide the needed learning materials at $24 per credit hour (added to your student account), saving students up to 35-50% on the cost of course materials. The cost can be paid by financial aid or by the student. If a student enrolls in a payment plan, this charge will be included in the payment plan calculations. Supplies are not included in this program and will need to be purchased separately.    

Â鶹ÊÓƵ students are automatically enrolled in the program at the time of registration and will begin receiving emails about selecting their preferred delivery method. 

How Does It Work? 

Register for Your Courses 

Upon registering for courses, you are automatically enrolled in the CCM rental access program. 

Verify Your Order 

Within 30 days of the first-class day, students will receive an email through their Â鶹ÊÓƵ email account directing them to verify their classes, provide an address to have their rental books shipped to them, or select the option to pick up their CCM at the Barnes and Noble Campus Bookstore on the Â鶹ÊÓƵ campus. 

Receive Your Books 

Once you confirm your order, an email notification will be sent to your Â鶹ÊÓƵ email account notifying you when your rental order will be ready for pick up or when it will ship. You will be required to either provide an address to ship your books to, or you will be given the option to pick up your CCM at the Barnes & Noble Campus Bookstore on the Â鶹ÊÓƵ campus. Your email and order number will provide guidance on shipping information and pick-up details. 
 
Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Blackboard. 

Returning or Buying Books at the End of the Semester 

  • Wait until the end of the semester then bring your books back to the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on the Â鶹ÊÓƵ campus located at: 
    • 4405 Jimmy Simmons Blvd. 
      Beaumont, TX 77705 
      Hours: Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. 
  • Download a UPS label from the bookstore webpage and send your books back for $5. To download this label, you will need to pull up your order number from a previous B&N order email. 
  • Go to the Rental Book Return webpage. 
    • Input your original order number and email address, download a label, and bring it to a UPS return point.
    • Students will be notified through their LAMAR UNIVERSITY email about book return options. Students will have the option to purchase their textbook rentals through instructions that will be emailed to them from the Barnes & Noble bookstore.

Opting out of CCM 

The CCM bundle is designed to provide significant savings on course materials, but we understand that it may not be a fit for every student. You can compare the price of the CCM at $24 per credit hour to the opt out price at 

If you do not wish to participate in the CCM program, you must opt out each semester. Students may opt-out or opt back in as many times as desired during the opt-out period and through the same opt-out link. No adjustments will be made to the CCM charges on your account until after the final opt-out date.

In classes with digital materials, if students have opted out of the program, they will often have access to the digital material for a short-term period, for example, two weeks. After that free trial ends, students who have opted out will lose access. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student who opts out to purchase access to that digital material for their use after the free access period ends.

  • What is the Cardinal Course Materials program?
    Cardinal Course Materials is a course material delivery model that simplifies the student experience, lowers the cost of materials, and ensures students have access to all required course materials on or before the first day of class. Through this innovative program, physical books are conveniently packaged and provided to students on a rental basis, and access to digital material is directly within Blackboard, at the cost of $24 per credit hour (added to your student account). At the end of the term, students will receive email reminders to return rented physical course materials to the bookstore.
  • How does it work?
    • Register for your classes and the bookstore will start preparing your course materials 
    • One month before classes start, you will receive an email instructing you to select your delivery preference (in-store pickup or shipped directly to you) 
    • An email notification will be sent when your order is ready for pickup or when it ships 
    • Your digital materials will be delivered for your course(s) within Blackboard 
  • Who is eligible to participate?

    All students are automatically opted into the program.

  • What materials are included in the program?

    The program provides all required textbooks, eTextbooks, lab manuals, and access codes to eligible students. 

  • What materials are excluded from the program?
    The program does not include consumable course supplies that cannot be returned and reused such as lab goggles, dissection kits, molecular model kits, engineering kits or nursing kits. 
  • How do I enroll in the program?
    All eligible students will be automatically enrolled in the Cardinal Course Materials program. 
  • Can I opt-out of the program?
    Students have the option to opt-out of the Cardinal Course Materials program each semester during the opt-out window. By opting out, students will not receive their required materials in a convenient package and access to digital content will be removed after the opt-out window closes.   • How do I change my opt-out status?

    To change your opt-out status and opt into the Cardinal Course Materials program, please click  or follow the instructions found in your opt-out confirmation email. 

    If I am only taking courses in a shorter parts of term (ie: Fall II) and not any full term courses, can I opt out and how?  

    The process for how to opt out of the CCM if you are ONLY taking part of term courses depends on when you register for classes. 

    If you register for the courses before or during the term’s online opt-out period, then you can use the online system to opt out. (The system will open at 12:0am and close at 11:59pm on each term’s dates).  

    For Fall II 2025, the CCM Opt In and Out period using the online system is: INSERT HERE. 

    If you have registered for the part of term courses after that online opt-out access ends, then you should visit this link NEED LINK AND DATES. 

    Students who want to opt out during the online opt-out period should visit THIS LINK. 

  • How do I purchase my course materials if I decide to opt-out of the program?

    Students will be responsible for purchasing their required course materials through the bookstore. 

     

  • If I receive financial aid, can it pay for my Cardinal Course Materials costs?
    Yes, financial aid is first applied toward all charges in your student account bill.
  • When are my textbook rentals due back to the bookstore?
    The deadline to return all rental textbooks is the last day of final exams for the semester. Students will receive reminders ahead of the rental deadline to their email address. 
  • Can I buy my rented textbook?
    Yes, the program provides you with the option to purchase any rental textbooks at a reduced rate during the semester. 
  • Do I need to return books if they are for a continuation course?
    Yes, you will still be required to return continuation course textbooks. You will be issued the same title for the next semester of the continuation course. 
  • What happens if I never verify my order?
    Students will receive email notifications from the bookstore reminding them to verify their order and choose their fulfillment preference. If the student does not opt-out, their materials will be held at the bookstore and their student account will be charged. 
  • If I never pick up my books, will I still get charged?
    Yes, if the student does not opt-out, physical materials will be held at the bookstore, digital materials will be accessed through Blackboard and the student account will be charged. 
  • What if I drop a class?
    If course materials have been picked up or delivered for the dropped class, those materials should be returned to the bookstore within 48 hours. If you drop a class and enroll in a different class, the bookstore will "swap" the required course materials so that you have what you need. 
  • Can I opt-out if I picked up my textbooks?

    Yes, you will have 48 hours to return your textbooks. If you do not return the textbooks, the charges for the bundle will remain on your student account and you will be subject to a replacement and non-return processing fee.
