Graduation Information

Before You Can Apply

Before you can apply for graduation, your department must submit the list of potential graduates, so please reach out to your department to ensure that your name was submitted. Graduation setup is a manual process that can only be completed once our department receives the potential graduate's name from the department. Once you have been set up for graduation, you will receive emails daily via your Â鶹ÊÓƵ Email account to apply online via your NewSelf-Service Banner account.

You MUST apply for graduation whether you plan to participate in the commencement day ceremony or not. Your degree will only be conferred if you apply for graduation.

Name Spelling

Pay close attention when filling out your graduation application, to ensure that your name is spelled correctly. Please use the correct bi-capitals and please do not use all capital letters. No pre-fixes should be included. Visit our Commencement page for more information.

Honors

In Regard to Honors, Latin honors are only awarded to our undergraduate students. Graduate students obtaining a master's or doctoral degree are not eligible for Latin honors and do not receive cords. Graduate students are required, by Graduate Studies, to maintain a 3.0 or higher to graduate. If you are a part of an honor society, you may wear the cord they provide.

Military Service Cords

Red, White and Blue Military Service Cords will be made available to any active duty, guard/reserve or veteran student interested in wearing one during the commencement ceremony. Students interested in allowing Â鶹ÊÓƵ to honor their service with a Military Service Cord should contact the Office of Veterans Affairs at (409) 880-8437 or by emailing va@lamar.edu. Active duty military personnel are encouraged to wear their Class A or Dress Blue Uniform.
