Âé¶¹ÊÓÆµ's Bachelor of Science in Theatre and Dance with a Teacher Certification concentrating in dance offers a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum designed to prepare students for a career in dance education. This program includes courses in dance technique, composition, performance and pedagogy, along with theatre and in primary and secondary education.

The goal of this program is to develop, deliver and assess dance content for students of multiple ages in a variety of educational settings. As well as articulate and demonstrate foundational principles and information in both studio- and lecture-based dance courses. Upon graduation, you will receive certification to teach dance in public schools in Texas. 

Teacher Certification – Dance Courses You May Take

Pathways in Dance: A first semester seminar in dance, this course offers special training in establishing the building blocks for success in a collegiate dance degree and thereafter including exploring professional practices and expectations, identity development, personal accountability, academic skills, and career pathways.

Latin, Ballroom and Social Dance: An introduction to various social dances, including the history and technique of partner dancing in Latin and Ballroom forms in the U.S. and around the World. No previous experience is expected. Course is open to non-majors.

Introduction to Teacher Education: An orientation to the organization and professional components of education in the United States with emphasis on Teacher Education in Texas.

Human Development and Learning: This course focuses on human development and appropriate learning and teaching theories. Developmental theories and issues as well as psychological principles involved in education, with emphasis on learning theories and practical application of psychological principles to learning and teaching. This is a field-based class with 30 clock hours allotted to spend in a public school. Field hours may be required by the professor.

Secondary Curriculum and Methodology: The structure and organization of the curriculum, materials, methods, and types of assessment used in secondary schools.
